This summer I had an incredible opportunity to participate in one of my most challenging yet rewarding experiences. After dedicating four months to the NASA L'SPACE Program MCA Academy, I had the privilege of receiving all seven attainable skill badges.
Teaming
Requirements
Project Management
Systems Topics
Risk Management
Heat Transfer
Siemens NX
These badges have provided me with a wide range of abilities necessary for my professional career, ranging from trade studies to leadership, teamwork, and system engineering techniques, CAD and more. Additional to the skill modules, I participated in weekly lectures from NASA experts on an array of subjects, skill modules, and worked within a team applying those learned skills listed below to complete our PDR.
Team 18
Our mission was to develop a system for researching the origin and habitability of CERES. While I am unable to give specific design specifics, I can say that our team chose a rover design that we named C.E.R.E.S(Ceres Exploration & Regolith Excavation Subsurfacer). The team completed the project with an 182 page report outlining our science, engineering, budget, and timeframe for the CERES mission.
As Team 18's Electrical Engineer, I was in charge of the power system as well as communication & data handling components.
After writing our final deliverable i.e. the PDR, on Saturday September 9th our team presented the CERES PDR to the L’SPACE Academy mentors. Only Bryan and I presented the final work because the majority of the team members were unable to join, and thank God the presentation went without a hitch.
I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Michael Fogg, Dann Garcia, Ian Pantagis, our mentor, Katelyn Frizzell, and my amazing PDR Team, Team 18 – Bryan Polk, Jamar K Whitfield Jr, Yash Patel, Jack Lin, Jonathan Ortega, Jeremy Duong and Christelle Mbemba. Working with all of you has been an incredible experience!
